Why Vacations Are Nice

Besides the fact that when you are on vacation you get to spend time with family and do things you wouldn't usually have time to do, sometimes when you return from your vacation, you find this on your doorstep:

Look!  There's a hole in the road!

And you realize how nice it is that you weren't there for most of the work-- the cutting and hammering and tearing apart to put in the new sidewalks, gutters, and pavement.  All you have to deal with is the laying of the new asphalt.

And you get to laugh at all the people who drive up to the barricades before they realize they need to turn around.

Update:  Why does it take some construction crews so long to get things done?  In the 5 days we have been home (admittedly one day was a weekend and another was a holiday) all that has been accomplished is one layer of asphalt being laid and the barriers taken away.  There is still a 3 inch drop from the concrete gutters to the new asphalt.
